This morning, I woke up at 5am to go to yoga.
I did the same thing last Tuesday, Wednesday AND Thursday.

Who AM I?
I think I'm becoming a morning person.
I KNOW.
It's hard to get out of bed, but once I've actually started moving, I don't mind it...and you know what? 5:45am is beautiful. I think I might actually start running at that time...we'll see.
So yes, I'm 11 days into my 30 Day Yoga Challenge and it's going really well. I've been having a little bit of pain in my lower back since Sunday's class so I've been doing modified poses but as far as the challenge itself goes, I'm feeling really good.
I've taken a mix of hot and cold classes varying in duration from an hour to an hour and a half and the classes have all gone really well. I like some instructors better than others and actively seek out their classes, but for the most part, I just go to classes that fit into my schedule. I've been going to Mind Your Body Oasis which is oh so conveniently located at the Crystal City Metro station...and I love their studio.

Things I've Noticed through 11 Days of Yoga
-I still can't touch my toes. Nowhere near them. It's somewhat embarrassing, but every once in awhile there's someone else in class that can't touch their toes either and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
-I hate Downward Dog.
-I can rock a serious crow pose.
This is not me. It is some random chick off the internets. |
-Tree Pose is utterly impossible in a hot room. There is no way to get my leg to rest on my thigh while I am sweating like crazy.

-I thought this would be a lot harder than it actually is. I'm not sure if it's just that I'm that committed or if it just really isn't that bad, but I don't feel like this is a never ending challenge and I don't ever dread going to yoga. In fact, when I practice in the mornings, sometimes I crave class in the evenings...I haven't managed a double day yet though.
So that's that. I've fallen in love with yoga. Even though I don't think I'll ever be able to touch my toes, I find solace in the fact that I love the way my Goddess pose looks and that I feel like I'm getting stronger every time I sink a little bit deeper into Pigeon...and that's what matters.
Tell Me: Have you ever tried a Yoga Challenge? How did it go for you? Do you practice yoga? What's your favorite pose?
I am a total morning person, so I am right there with you - 5:45 IS beautiful:) I think it's amazing that you can rock the crow, too. That is seriously hard core. I, too, hated downward dog, and anything heated. Ugh:) Congrats on a successful challenge!
ReplyDeleteAwesome work so far. I don't think I can touch my toes either. I'm excited to start my challenge, but I haven't figured out which month works best with travel. It might be July!!
ReplyDeleteOne day when my schedule regulates I'd love to try a yoga challenge! I'm turning into a morning person as well- something I NEVER thought would happen!
ReplyDeleteThe only yoga I've ever done is a DVD in my basement and I can count on one hand how many times I've done it! Yikes! One of my goals is to definitely add some yoga into my routine! Love that you can do crow pose! :)
ReplyDeleteGah mornings are my favorite! I love the quite outside and the alone time. Way to go on the yoga, you will reach those toes eventually. The most consistent I have ever been with yoga is Saturday mornings for about 2 months.
ReplyDeleteOMG that's so awesome that you can do crow pose. I have always wanted to be able to do it and just CANNOT make it work. All I end up with are bruises on the back of my arms!!
ReplyDeleteOMG that's awesome that you can do crow pose! I have tried for years and all I end up with are bruises on my arms!
ReplyDeleteOK SORRY IF I POSTED A MILLION COMMENTS. I cannot figure out this whole WordPress/Blogger commenting then. One reason why i am moving back to blogger asap!
ReplyDeleteYou can do a CROW pose! WOW, that is freaking awesome!!!! Good job on your yoga challenge!
ReplyDeleteI loooooove being up early and getting my workout done. What I hate is the alarm clock waking me up so early... I've done hot yoga before and really liked it-- never mastered the crow though!! I just wish yoga wasn't so darn expensive!
ReplyDeleteI'm really impressed!! For one thing, it sounds like your yoga challenge is going so well and I love that. And another, I used to LOVE getting up early to workout!! A few summers ago, I was up at the gym by 5:30am for about 2 weeks straight, and then I went on vacation and it all went down from there. I actually was thinking of getting up early this week to start morning workouts again because I don't have any other time to do them and I want to feel good for the wedding I'm in next week. So maybe I will get up and feel that same rush that you're feeling!!
