I hope you're all recovering this morning from a fun New Year's Eve! As for me, I'm heading to a free 5k that DC's Mayor is hosting. She also just announced that all city-owned fitness centers in DC are going to be free in 2016. How awesome is that?! It's an awesome way for DC to kick off 2016!
I love the start of the New Year. I always feel like there's so much promise and excitement, especially when the outoging year was a little tough. I didn't set any goals or resolutions last year, and I don't think that worked too well for me, so this year I am.
My one major resolution for 2016 it's going to be focusing on growth.
I want to grow as a runner. I'm eyeing a few races this year and they all have more hills than I can even think of. The first race I ever signed up for was called the Heartbreak Hill Half-Marathon. The first race I ever ran had an elevation profile that was nothing short of terrifying. I was too naive to know just how hard hills are, but this year, I want to embrace them because I know that hills will make me a better, stronger, faster runner and I know that the prep work I'll need to be able to tackle those hills (hello squats!) will help me avoid injury.
- Rub a sub-4 marathon
- Run a sub-1:50 half-marathon
- Actually strength and cross train (again, hello squats!)
- Shop locally at the farmers' market
- Take a cooking class
- Get better at meal planning
I want to grow my blog. I've been blogging for almost six years now and I feel like my focus shifted drastically from what it was as a result of the fact that I wasn't running. I'm not l
- Write posts about trips I took before I had a blog
- Try and land a sponsorship for a travel-related post
- Use my running posts as a way to stay accountable with training
I want to grow my savings. I was actually awesome about this last year. I had a lot of financial blows last year but one thing I made a point to do was to never stop saving. I grew my Savings account by more than 40 percent last year and I'd like to grow it even more this year!
- Pay off my credit card
- Save a percentage of my gross income, rather than my net income
- Budget!
There you have it! My 2016 resolution and goals! I'm so pumped for this year and really hope it brings a lot of wonderful things for both The Pilot and me.
Happy New Year!
