Hello! It's been a while! We've been managing our way through the pandemic, tackling as many home projects as we can. Right now, we're about 3/4 of the way through a kitchen renovation that I'm so excited for! If you follow me on Instagram, you can check out it all out on my Stories and Story Highlights!
What started in March as a fun way to distract me through the pandemic, my baking hobby has become a lifeline. I've learned so much and have boldly experimented with new recipes. They don't always turn out well but I'm learning and that's part of the fun! I asked on Instagram and was surprised to see how many people would be interested in joining me in a Holiday Baking Challenge, so let's do it!
Starting November 23 (the week of Thanksgiving) and running through December 27, we'll take on five festive bakes, share recipes and inspiration, challenge ourselves, and maybe even develop new baking traditions!
As a rule, these challenges don't feature any particular ingredient to be sensitive to allergies or grocery store limitations, especially with what seems like inevitable lockdowns ahead. I'm also sharing each week's challenge now so that you can plan your holiday baking in advance!
November 23: Thanksgiving Pie! What is Thanksgiving without pie? While the holiday will certainly be different this year, I'm still making pie!
November 30: A Holiday Cake with a Holiday Scene! This is where you get to let your creative juices flow. I'm attempting a Buche de Noel! If you want to join me in this brave attempt, I'd love that, but I know the roll cake might be out of many people's comfort zone so you can make a wintery, holiday scene out of any cake you choose!
December 7: Cookies! What is Christmas without cookies? This week is also the start of Hanukkah so I might try my hand at rugelach but I'll be honest and say that I might go crazy baking this week since there are just too many good Christmas Cookie recipes!
December 14: Holiday-Drink Inspired! What's your favorite holiday drink? Eggnog? Peppermint Mocha? Turn it into a dessert! Or, if you need a break from baking, just make the drink from scratch!
December 21: Sweet Breakfast Rolls! For me, nothing says Christmas morning like fresh-out-of-the-oven cinnamon rolls. I've seen cranberry-orange rolls, berry-cream cheese, the works! This is one tradition I won't deviate from but if cinnamon rolls aren't your jam, you've got options!
If you join me, use the hashtag #bakingwithchristy! On your mark, get set, bake!
